An online safe haven.

So a few months ago, my skin started breaking out for no apparent reason. Instead of "period pimples" which you get every month but those disappear within like a few days, I had acne instead. Like, really really bad acne.

Acne started popping out on my forehead, cheeks and chin. So basically, my entire face. It was red. Sorry no pics cause who wanted to take pictures of their bad acne as a memory lol.

Because normally my skin is healthy and clear, I was freaking out when it started breaking out. Like why?! I headed to the National Skin Centre to get a check up done and to get some medicine for the acne. In my case it's considered mild acne lah, but if you were in my shoes you'd understand. For someone who has clear skin all her life, all of a sudden acne started arriving?!

The dermatologist said it could be due to hormones- other words, puberty.

gif source
Wow, a bit too late for acne puberty leh. So yeah, apparently, acne puberty decided to hit me when I'm a little older. Sigh.

Anyway, because of my sensitive and acne skin, I made huge changes to my makeup routine.

I stopped using foundation/bb creams.

Foundation image source

Before my acne skin, I had a complete makeup routine - which means, foundation/bb creams or cushion, brows, liner, blush, contour, highlight etc. But after the redness and acne started appearing, I stopped using my bb creams/cushions.

Because the doctor told me that it is better to let my skin breathe, she told me to try not to pile on a lot of makeup. So, I stopped.

I know, what a waste right. All my bb creams/cushions are left in my drawer, untouched for like a few months liao. But I've never felt better!

After I stopped piling makeup on my face, I feel like my skin could breathe better now. Especially out in the hot weather, I don't have to worry about my sweat mixing with my base makeup already (ew).

I now use only concealer for my under eye dark circles. Thankfully my concealer shade is the same as my skin tone, so it is able to blend in very nicely so it wont look so obvious that I have only under eye concealer on heh.

Actually, I got the idea of going foundation free from Michelle Phan as well. I remembered she said something when she finally came back, was how her skin has never felt healthy ever since she stopped using foundation. If I'm not wrong, she has been going foundation free for two years now and her skin really looked amazing. No kidding.

If can, try to go foundation free once in a while. It is actually beneficial to your skin especially skin like mine which are sensitive and acne prone. Plus, you get to save money heh.

I stopped using blushes.

Blush image source

At the time when my acne was really bad, my cheeks were already red enough. So obviously I can't use anymore blush right? Later I look like a baboon. Lol.

Plus, just the thought of piling on powders onto my acne skin makes me feel yucky. Ugh. So now, I haven't been using blush for months.

Even now when my skin is clearing up (hallelujah thank you Lord), and there's not much redness anymore, I still don't use any blush already.

I started making use of color correcting concealers recently when I started breaking out. Yes, I said I don't wanna pile on makeup on my acne right, but there are times where I have events to go to where I need to to look nice right, so that's where color correcting comes in.

I am currently using this color correcting palette by NYX and it is so good.

I use the green shade to neutralise the redness on my skin and it does work wonders.

Also, I had cut down on my skincare routine.

Okay this may seem like a shocker cause you may be like "huh, but isn't cutting down on your skincare routine bad for your skin?" Well.. in my case, not really. My doctor told me that since my skin is a bit more sensitive and tend to be red easily, it would be better to stay away from makeup brand skincare.

I took the liberty of asking her specifically about Korean brand skincare since they are known for skincare right, so she told me that it's better to stay away from them if your skin tend to be more sensitive than others.

She also told me that all I need for skincare is just sun protection and moisturiser.

Wow, if only I knew that earlier I wouldn't spend so much money on skincare lor.

She recommended a skincare line that it suitable for people with sensitive skin like me, that is more medicinal in this case.

So now, instead of having five products on my face, I have only two! Some of you may have a different opinion than me, but I feel like it's better this way. Like the phrase "less is more" right? Hehe.

It has been a few months since these changes were made and I'm glad to say that my skin is clearing up day by day. THANK YOU JESUS.

There are like pimples popping here and there but those are the kinds that disappears after a week. So yes, my acne is starting to clear up and there is still slight redness here and there but it's all good!

Nevertheless, I intend to stay on this makeup routine still. Probably cause I am used to it already I guess. Sorry once again, I have no before and after pictures. Cause really, the last thing I wanna do is to take a pic of my extreme red face when I'm breaking out lol.

To all those out there who are having acne too, don't fret too much! Just know that it is a phase in life and that your skin will be clear and beautiful again! It just takes time, in my case, more than half a year. Just be patient and diligently apply your prescribed medicine. You'll definitely see changes soon enough.

YASSSS am back with another beauty review!

It's been so long and I'm really excited to write about this one!! As you can tell from the title above, (don't kill me) it's another Etude House product again! Woohoo!! Okay, I think I'm the only one excited huh..

Anyway, I went to Seoul in March, that's why confirm got a lot of beauty products to review on especially Etude House's cause if you read my Seoul Sweet posts, you guys would know that I went super crazy over there. If you have not read it, here it is.

I will be writing about one of their product from their Play 101 line. So this year, Etude actually launched their Play 101 line, you guys would have heard of their Play 101 pencils right?

Bet you guys didn't know that within their Play 101 line, there are also various play 101 sticks such as their multi color ones which are multi functional, foundations sticks and their contour duo stick which I would be showing you guys in a second.

(pic not mine)
These are the multi color ones that are multifunctional!

Before I bought this, I have never contour or highlight before. Probably cause I don't know how to and all I had was eyeshadows which to me was quite hard to use it to contour.

When Etude launched this product, I was like "need to try need to try!!"

So when I went to Seoul, I bought it for about 15,000 won if I could recall properly.. But I'm sure it's much more cheaper than the price over here.

Having both highlight and contour at the same time makes it super convenient!

Okay so let's talk about what I like about this product. I like how the shades are just right for my skin tone. Ya know, some contour colors aren't suitable for certain people because of their skin tone, so I remembered just grabbing this off the shelf without checking if it suits my skin.

But I'm glad it did! The contour shade wasn't too dark for my skin and it does gives off the contour effect that I wanted. The highlight part is also very pretty lol, it does what it's suppose to - shine the face. LMAO.

Oh, and it is super duper easy to apply on! Like it's very easy to drag (okay glide) it across my face.

Okay, anyway, there's one thing that I don't like about it though. The product finishes so fast! OMG. I don't know if I used it a lot, but when I twisted the stick to take the above photo, the contour part left like 3 cm only!

I was like "omg so fast finishing?!! NOOOOO" Knowing that it would finish so fast I could have bought another one when I was in Korea!! UGH.

The highlight portion got quite a bit still, just the contour part. I think I use more contour than highlight lol.

I don't know if it's suppose to blend it very easily cause it's a cream product right, but I get really tired blending the contour lol, or I think I'm just weak sigh, better start working those arm muscles!!

Okay, so I'll rate this product - 4/5!! Minus 1 cause it finishes so quickly!!

Wanna see how I contour & highlight?

pardon me for my not so on fleek makeup, I took this after spending the whole day at school so my makeup all vanished sigh

So the features where I would contour would be - cheekbones, jawline and hairline and nose.

This is because I wanted to make my face and nose look a little sharper and slimmer.

Features where I will highlight - nose bridge, cupid's bow, chin, above the cheekbones, brow bone and center of the forehead.

This is so that these features will stand out and be brought out.

Usually people contour and highlight is so that they would be able to hide and bring out certain features of their face. So why go for surgery when there's makeup? Heh.

But of course it's up to your own personal opinions, not that surgery isn't bad or anything. But I'd prefer "if no need, what for do."

Oh and I know a lot of people don't do contour and highlight now right? Now it's strobing instead hor? Sigh, time to master another skill again!

I think strobing will be easier right since it only involves highlighter..

Ok! I will go and learn strobing then I'll come back to yall with a new post and maybe do a comparison between C&H or strobing? Hehe.

What are the other makeup trends as well? I remembered after strobing there's another right.. But I just can't remember.. Hmm..

I forgot to mention, I will then use the beauty blender that I got from Korea (nope unfortunately, I do not have the original beauty blender that cost 30 bucks from sephora) and blend everything out.

Contour and highlight has become a part of my makeup routine that I'd feel weird if I stepped out of the house without it. For me, if I'm running late, I will only proceed to contour my nose cause the nose seems more important to me though lol.

I think I bore you guys enough with all the beauty talk right? Okie, I shall see yall in my next post! Adios!

(gifs not mine)

Okay, as yall know I've recently went on a holiday to Korea and bought like the "entire" Etude House back, LMAO. Fine, not ENTIRE but a lot of stuff especially skincare!!

I showed yall in my beauty haul post about this skincare line from Etude that I bought right, called the Pink Vital Water.

To be honest, before my holiday to Korea, I gotta admit, I was very horrible in skincare. I neglected my skin too much (too lazy to do skincare routines, not enough spf) which resulted in darkening skin, break outs, blackheads (ew), lots of dead skin etc.

My skin felt rough and doesn't seem like how a girl's skin should be like. Okay, I don't mean ALL women must have perfect skin lah, but at least must be presentable right.

Anyway, when I went to Korea, as yall know the weather there is like cold and windy so your skin tends to be drier, which is why I made sure I packed my moisturiser there. Fyi, my moisturiser was quite old already lol, have it quite sometime.

However, apparently my moisturiser wasn't working because my skin started peeling off omg. Especially my chin area, it started peeling and it was sooooo ugly. Sorry, no photo.

It was on the third day when the peeling happens. My skin also became even more dry despite me putting on my moisturiser. Thank God, I've already bought the skincare and it came with a trial kit.

So my mom suggested I use these instead of my old ones.

For the rest of the trip I used these, though the peeling didn't stop straight away obviously because the weather was still cold and windy and my skin not used to it mah.

But I trusted it and continue to use these throughout my trip and even after coming back home, I'm still using it. Though I'll probably see results in a few weeks, but I'm glad my skin is being hydrated everyday especially in this hot weather.

I would recommend girls living in a country with climate like Singapore to get skincare products that are water based since it will produce less oil. I do find my face less oilier now since I'm feeding my face with water lol.

Getting Rid of Dead Skins

Another skin care product that I'm obsessed with is the peeling ones. What I mean is exfoliating your face, getting rid of the dead skins ugh. My mom bought a exfoliating product from Nature Republic and Face Shop while we were in Korea.

We are currently using the Nature Republic one and it's soooooo good to use man. It's like my face becomes like a baby's bottom, damn smooth!! OMG.

Previously, we were using this exfoliating product by Face Shop, which is a sugar scrub I think, it was more of a scrub than peeling. And it doesn't work tbh. So my mom chose a peeling one this time and it works like shit!!

If yall wanna get rid of the dead skin, get a peeling one, not a scrub one cause they really don't work. Peeling ones are much better!

After coming back from Korea, I made a point to ensure my skin is well taken care of. What's the point in putting makeup when your skin is very bad? I mean I know makeup is used to enhance beauty and all, but tbh, if your skin is bad (and it's because you never take good care of it), then I don't see the point in wearing makeup at all.

Do yall know, makeup actually clog your pores and make your skin worse if you don't take good care of it?

My mom has been telling me to keep taking care of my skin because the more makeup I apply, my skin will get worse if I do not give it a proper treatment.

I didn't listen to her and neglected my skin which resulted in blackheads and disgusting stuff ew.

Getting rid of black and white heads

So I have a routine which I stick to in order to get rid of black and white heads. Before using pore strips, I'll make sure to cleanse my face first.

I am currently using this facial wash by Face Shop. It specifies for blackheads though I am not too sure what it does too. But I figured out that it kind of make the blackheads more easier to come out I think.

Because after using this for a few times, I realise that I was able to get rid of more blackheads very easily. However, if you think using this cleanser alone is enough to get rid of blackheads, nope, you're wrong. Where got so easy one please, still got extra steps to get rid of these disgusting thing, which brings me to the second step.

I blogged about pore strips before right. After cleansing my face, I use pore strips to try and rip away whatever gunk that could possibly be ripped out. (does that make sense lmao). It feels damn shiok man when after ripping out you see all those gunk. Ugh.

Anyway, after using pore strips, I move on to the final step. It is also a step (or tool) which I use to be scared of but now it's kind of my friend.. THE PIN.

When I was around 13 years old, my mom would always try to use the pin on my nose to squeeze the blackheads out. I remembered crying and kicking around cause it was damn damn damn painful. I've always feared the pin. I couldn't stand it lor, damn pain please.

Pretty much me when my mom comes to me with the pin..

I'd always stick to pore strips, less painful. But then I realize, pore strips sure work, but most of the blackheads are still there leh. It was getting annoying.

Remember the phrase, "no pain no gain"?

Boy, that phrase makes sense man. Last time I needed my mom's help to use the pin to get the heads out, but one day I decided to just try on my own lmao.

That one day is actually a month ago tbh AHHAHAH.

Anyway, ya, I took the first step in taking the pin to get rid of the heads,

I kept telling myself, no pain no gain. Beauty is pain so, just do it!!

AND I DID IT. I USED THE PIN.

Major achievement unlock please. I guess you could say, as you grow older, you will mature.

Conclusion

Conclusion - SKINCARE IS SUPER IMPORTANT (I don't say AHAHA)

Especially if you are a makeup user like me. Because we have foundations, bb creams, concealers etc on our face, it basically clogs our pores. Which is why we have to take good care of our skin daily to ensure that we don't break out and accumulate more blackheads.

Once you take good care of your skin, there's no problem wearing makeup daily. But make sure that you have skincare products that are suitable for your skin! I think it is worth it to invest in good skincare products.

Yes, I know it is expensive, but it is worth it trust me. It is definitely worth an investment since you are taking good care of your skin and making it beautiful!

Like what my mom always say "No use being pretty with all those makeup on your face when your skin is bad."

Okie, done nagging liao. Have fun being beautiful!

For those who are not into makeup, I think you can like not read this post. LOL.

So I just wanted to blog about how I discovered makeup followed by my obsession with them.

I first discovered makeup when I was in primary 3? 9 years old then. My mom had loads of makeups, brands that don't really exist now. When my mom was like in her 20s, she always wore super thick eye shadows and red lips. You know in the 80s and 90s, the makeup is known to be super black smokey eye ((like your eye kenna punched)) and super red lips!!

She was the one who taught me how to wear makeup. At 9 years old, I started off by wearing simple ones like pink lipgloss. Then when I was 10, I played with a sparkly silver eyeshadow. I look ridiculous then omg. Some more I was so nerd nerd, with rectangular glasses. LOL. Still 有脸 to wear silver eyeshadow and lipgloss.

When I was 11, that's when puberty hit me lol. I started wanting to look prettier since I kinda know how to like boys already. So I assumed that "hey, for a boy to like a girl, she has to look slim and pretty."

That was the first time my mom plucked my eyebrows. I swear I cried like a baby omg. It was freaking pain and I was so scared of the tweezers. That time thin brows were still a trend, so my mom would plucked my eyebrows until they were super thin. It wasn't until I was 15 years old then the trend was Korean eyebrows, thick and straight. So I painstakingly waited till my eyebrows grew and groomed them myself. ((Yes! I don't go and thread my brows, I pluck and groom them myself!))

As yall can see, left one is how my brows were before I knew about the korean eyebrows trend! Right one is how my brows are now! :D

Another one for yall

Man the difference between the photos is about 3 to 4 years!! Wah, I changed so much leh. Okay lah, maybe a little only LOL.

Anyway, now plucking my brows are a painless thing to me heh. I know some girls would find them super duper pain in the beginning, but trust me, once you keep on doing it, it gets less pain subsequently.

At 11 years old was when I discovered beauty gurus on YouTube. That's when I watched Michelle Phan's videos for the first time! Ever since then, I got hooked and that's where I learned a lot of makeup tips from her videos.

Also, I had the blessing of getting my first pair of contact lenses! As you know, wearing makeup with glasses is a little... weird. To me at least. So my mom kinda tell me whether I wanna try to wear contact lenses, so I was like "alrighty!" Plus I wouldn't look so nerdy anymore.

I discovered BB creams at that age as well. It was because I was hooked on kpop and k dramas. That year was the year when KPOP was starting to become a global phenomenon. Boys Over Flowers was my first ever korean drama and I was so crazy over it. While watching it, I sort of studied the makeup and was so freaking fascinated by how korean people's skin was so pretty!

pic not mine

That's where I learned that they used "BB Creams." My first BB cream was from Za! Not a korean brand yeah, but still it was a BB cream so I was excited!

pic not mine. credit to official website of Za

My first compact powder was also from Za!

pic not mine. Credits to official website of Za
Soon as I watch more beauty tutorials on YouTube from various makeup gurus, my obsession for makeup grew! Some of my favourite makeup gurus would be ((the QUEEN)) Michelle Phan, Promise Tamang Phan, Angel from BeautifyMeeh, Judy from itsJudytime, and Bethany Mota!! There's so much more, but these are personally my favourites!

Before I was into korean makeup styles, I was into black eyeshadows, thick eyeliners and thin brows! I am sure every girl would have her "goth look" in the beginning of discovering makeup.

I don't know if you could see my eye makeup, but could you see how black it is? LOL. This was taken in 2011 I think! When Belle ((little cousin)) was about 3! ((She's 7 now btw))

Soon korean makeup became a trend! It was all about super nice and white skin with straight thick brows. Winged eyeliner and minimal eyeshadows, hardly any blush on the cheeks followed by gradient lips.

DAMN NICE RIGHT. I love love love how korean makeup focus so much on making the skin so dewy and pretty!!

Korean women ((and men)) super duper take damn good care of their skin one! They love love having that dewy effect on their skin cause it's like their skin is "glowing" But here in Singapore, it's impossible with the heat ugh. Plus, dewy dewy skin effect would make you look like you have super oily skin LOL. Cause it will make your face shine mah. It's only possible in cold countries I guess.

No use having dewy dewy skin here in Singapore

So now whenever I watch k dramas, I always pay attention to the females's makeup!! Get to learn a tip or two! Heh.

Come to think of it, boy am I glad I discovered korean makeup trends. Cause I think it sort of suits me better and I love it very very much!!

I think different women suits different makeup style. If you are new to makeup, don't be afraid to try on different styles! Be it smokey or natural eyeshadows, red or pink lips, american or korean makeup styles, don't be afraid to experiment with it!

In my free time, I'll just whip out my eyeshadow palette and start applying different eyeshadow colors onto my eyes. This is to see which colors suits me best and whether I will like it or not!

It's kinda fun ya know, to play around with makeup. Do different types of eyeliner wings, different lip colors and so much more!! Hehe!

For those makeup beginners, look up tutorials on YouTube. They are sooooooo useful trust me!!

I know makeup isn't cheap nowadays, but you can try those makeup at Watson or Guardian! They are so much cheaper than those at Sephora!! You might have discount somemore!!

If not, buy online. I usually buy online heh.

Have fun and don't be afraid to explore! Fighting!!
